About me

I am Esmaeil Haddadian-Moghaddam, an independent researcher in Belgium. Most recently, I was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions research fellow at Universiteit Leiden, Netherlands.  I have held positions in Spain, Belgium, the United States and Netherlands. Among others, I am the author of Literary Translation in Modern Iran: A Sociological Study (2014; read a review here), a founding and managing editor of the Journal of World Literature, and a member of the editorial board of Translation History book series. My current research project is about the cultural Cold War in the Middle East, focusing on a book program of the era, i.e. Franklin Book Programs in Iran and Egypt. I have explored the literary dimension of Franklin in Iran in an article. I do research in the field of Iranian/Persian studies, Translation Studies, the cultural Cold War, history, and World Literature.

I have a PhD in Translation and Intercultural Studies from Spain . My PhD thesis, “Agency in the translation and production of novels from English in modern Iran” explored the role of translators and publishers in selecting and publishing novels over a period of 200 years. My studies also include a master’s degree in English Literature and a master’s degree in Social Anthropology, both from the University of Dalarna, Sweden, and an undergraduate degree in TESOL from Iran.
